Kenya Engagement Program: October 30–November 6, 2011

Learn how WOCCU is using the latest technological innovations to reach the unbanked rural poor. By connecting the smallest credit unions to an application service provider (ASP), the program helps credit unions strengthen their operations and meet new regulatory requirements. After visiting project supported credit unions, rural communities as well as volunteering at Busia Compassionate Centre (orphanage), you will help develop savings and credit products tailored to meet member needs.

Agenda Overview and Hotel Information:

October 30: Arrive in Nairobi

October 31: AM rest. PM trip overview and explanation of WOCCU development strategies.

November 1: AM visit project and ICK offices. PM visit nearby accountants. Discuss savings a credit product options.

November 2: AM drive to Kisumu. PM visit nearby SACCOs.

November 3: AM drive to Busia. Volunteer at orphanage, spend the night in Busia.

November 4: AM volunteer at orphanage. PM drive back to Kisumu. Discuss possible programs for integrating the orphanage into the formal financial sector.

November 5: AM drive to Masaai Mara National Park. PM game drive, overnight in the Masaai Mara.

November 6: AM drive to Nairobi. PM trip debrief. Evening flight back to the US.

Network Member (individual or organization) - $2,800*
Network Non-Member (individual or organization) - $3,200*

*Registration costs cover the participants' in-country expenses, including lodging, food and local transportation. Participants should make their own air travel arrangements and pay for their flights and visa separately. A minimum of 10 participants must fully register for the program by September 29, 2011 in order for the trip to take place.
